On 16 June every year, the commemorates the Day of the African Child (DAC).The celebration stems from 1976 protests by school children in Soweto, South Africa. The students protested against an education designed to further the purposes of the apartheid regime. They marched more than half a mile long, they protested the inferior quality of their education and demanded their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of young boys and girls were shot down by security forces.
In the two weeks of protest that followed, more than a hundred people were killed and more than a thousand were injured. And the protests contributed to the end of the Apartheid regime. Today i come to share some photos i have taken over time showing the life of an African Child – the uganda Way. Many have been prevailed with education but they have to cross lakes or move long distances to learn, others have poor facilities, the list is just endless…. Do not hesitate to leave a comment
